Short Film Review: Locks (2009)

By Sean Gardner

Ryan Coogler, director of Creed, Fruitvale Station, and the upcoming Black Panther, made a six minute short film in 2009 called Locks. It has no dialogue, yet it is profoundly touching. It depicts a lifestyle that is rough on the outside, but gently loving on the inside. It has the same tone as all of Coogler’s other projects. It is the perfect showcase of a young filmmakers budding career. I mentioned this briefly in my review for Creed, but keep an eye on Ryan Coogler. He will win Oscars. Multiple. He is one of the best directors working today, and he has a knack for emotional storytelling.

There is not much else I can say about a six minute short film with no dialogue. So, I will let it speak for itself. It can be seen for free here. Thank you for reading and tell me what you think!
